Ascension Day
Acts 1:9–11 (NASB95)
9 And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. 10 And as they were gazing intently into the sky while He was going, behold, two men in white clothing stood beside them. 11 They also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven.”
Today is Ascension Day, and in 10 days is the Feast of Pentecost. The Ascension of Christ took place 39 days after the resurrection, and the instruction of the Angels to the disciples is the same for us today. Our focus on this day should not be on the Ascension but on the return of our Lord. The Angels said that Jesus would come back just the same way that we see Him going up. Every day that passes puts us closer to the return of Christ. He is coming soon, and every eye will see Him. (Revelation 1:7 (NASB95) 7 Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen.) The disciples were blessed to see the Ascension, but we will be blessed to see His return.
I don’t claim to know it all, but I do know how to read. Heb 9:28 tells us that He is coming for those that are looking for Him. (Hebrews 9:28 (NASB95) 28 so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.) The KJV of Heb 9:28 says to look for Him vs. eagerly await Him. Either way, we were told more than once to look for the return of Christ. There’s a parable of the ten virgins in Matt 25:1-13. Five of the virgins made it, and five did not, and the last verse says (13 “Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.) Ascension Day is a reminder of His return. Please be ready and look up! Luke 21:27–28 (NASB95) 27 “Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 “But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
