Build Your Own Temple
(1Co 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?) In the old testament, we have the Tabernacle of Moses and the Temples of the Kings, but in the new testament, we are the Temple. The last Temple in Jerusalem will be rebuilt to fulfill the end-time prophecy, but as 1Co 6:19 says, your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. The Tabernacle of Moses was meticulously built by the instruction of God. Likewise, our Temple’s development must be by God’s guidance. Without knowing details of the specific requirements of a Holy Temple, you already know what shouldn’t be in there. When you come to Christ, there are a lot of things in our lives that are less than holy.
Unlike building a temple from scratch, we need to clean out the one we have and begin a reconstruction process. Think about what you are thinking about. Think about what you are doing. Think about your habits and routines, and take a minute to ask why? Why do you do what you do? If the Spirit of God is in you, you will not want to watch the same movies, listen to the same music, or hang out with the same people. Whenever you subject yourself to something (bring something into the Temple), it stays with you for a long time. What happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas. Its stays with you until you get rid of it. It’s tough to guard your mind, especially in this world that’s polluted on every level. Clean out your Temple by renewing your mind with the Word of God (Rom 12:2). Put on the whole armor of God and fight to protect the Temple and hold each other accountable. (Ro 14:7 For not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself; 8 for if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.) Can you imagine what the world would look like if there were no sin and no pollution? It’s beautiful to us now, and it’s filthy. Imagine what you would look like without sin and decay, filled only with the Spirit and the Word of God. How much more effective could we be with a clean temple, holy and undefiled before God?
Be blessed and be BOLD,
Pastor Charlie
