Rising from the Ashes
Reading: James 4:6-10; Joel 2:12-13
Devotional: "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you." This is the pattern of the Kingdom—down before up, death before life, ashes before beauty. David understood this. After his sin with Bathsheba, after the judgment that followed, after watching his kingdom nearly torn apart by his own son's rebellion, David knew that restoration only comes through repentance.
The church today needs to return to the ashes—to genuine humility, authentic repentance, and complete surrender. Not the pretty, polished religion that entertains but never transforms. Not the comfortable Christianity that costs nothing and changes nothing. But the holy fire that burns away everything false until only Christ remains.
When pressure comes—and it will—only those who've truly died to themselves will stand. Will you be found faithful?
Application: Kneel before God today in symbolic humility. Confess areas of pride, self-reliance, and half-hearted commitment. Ask Him to raise you up as His holy vessel.
