True Repentance vs. Being Sorry

True Repentance vs. Being Sorry

Reading: 2 Corinthians 7:10; Job 42:1-6

Devotional: There's a profound difference between worldly sorrow and godly repentance. Judas was sorry—sorry enough to return the silver and take his own life—but he never truly repented. Job, however, found comfort in his repentance, humbling himself in dust and ashes before God.
Being sorry focuses on consequences: "I'm sorry I got caught" or "I'm sorry this cost me something." True repentance focuses on the offense against God: "I have sinned against You, Lord. Change my heart." Repentance doesn't just regret the past; it turns completely toward God's future. It finds restoration, not just remorse.
Where have you been merely sorry instead of truly repentant? God isn't looking for your excuses—He's offering you restoration.

Application: Identify one area where you've been "sorry" but not repentant. Confess it fully to God and ask Him to transform your heart.
