“Welcome to the Table”
There is a great story in 2 Samuel where David says (2 Sam 9:1 ″Is there yet anyone left of the house of Saul that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” verse 3″There is still a son of Jonathan who is crippled in both feet.”) the rest of the story is what’s important. (2 Sam 9:7 David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show kindness to you for the sake of your father Jonathan, and will restore to you all the land of your grandfather Saul; and you shall eat at my table regularly.” 8 Again he prostrated himself and said, “What is your servant, that you should regard a dead dog like me?” 9 ¶ Then the king called Saul’s servant Ziba and said to him, “All that belonged to Saul and to all his house I have given to your master’s grandson.) Notice that when Mephibosheth fell at David’s feet and ask “why would you regard a dead dog like me?” that David didn’t even acknowledge the comment. He said to the servant “all of the House of Saul belongs to him.” His reward had nothing to do with what he thought about himself. He was rewarded because of who his father was. What a great example of Christian inheritance. You were bought with a price, and through faith, you are now an heir to the Kingdom of God and all of the promises of Abraham (Gal 3:16). Feeling unworthy and sorry for yourself does not change the fact that you are a child of God. If you have accepted Jesus as your savior and believe that he rose from the dead, you are born again and have a rightful place at God’s table. You are a child of the Most High. You didn’t pay for it, earn it, or even deserve it, but Jesus thought you were worthy of it. So he laid down his life in place of yours. (Ro 8:15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”) If that doesn’t make you want to leap out of your skin, then nothing will. You are more than what you believe you are. All of the gifts, resources, and promises have been given to you by your faith. Use them. Shout it on the rooftops. Exercise God’s authority and die to yourself so that Christ might live through you.
These are the promises of Abraham:
Genesis 28:1-13
1 ¶ “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth.
2 “And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you because you obey the voice of the LORD your God:
3 “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.
4 “Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks.
5 “Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.
6 “Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.
7 “The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.
8 “The LORD will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you.
9 “The LORD will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways.
10 “Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they shall be afraid of you.
11 “And the LORD will grant you plenty of goods, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your ground, in the land of which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you.
12 “The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.
13 “And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them. Welcome to the table.
