The Power of Repentance
Reading: Jonah 3:1-10; 2 Chronicles 7:14
Devotional: Jonah's brief message—"40 days and Nineveh will be overthrown"—transformed an entire wicked generation. The brutal Assyrians, who nailed Hebrew children on city walls, fell to their knees in repentance. How? God had prepared their hearts, and one man's obedience released His mercy. Repentance isn't weakness; it's the doorway to divine intervention. When Nineveh humbled themselves, God relented from judgment, sparing them for 100 years. True repentance changes trajectories—personally and nationally. Is there an area where pride has kept you from turning fully to God? Remember, God's patience waits, but repentance must be genuine and sustained. The Ninevites' initial repentance bought time, but later generations forgot and perished. Don't just start well—end well.
