Virtue Over Vice
Reading: Galatians 5:19-24
Devotional: The works of the flesh are vices—addictive behaviors contrary to the Spirit. But the fruit of the Spirit isn't merely emotion; it's virtue—a consistent character trait that flows from who you are in Christ. A cherry tree doesn't strain to produce cherries; it simply bears fruit according to its nature. You're not saved because you produce good fruit; you produce good fruit because you're saved. The fruit reveals the root system. If anger, envy, or selfish ambition characterize your life, something internal needs attention. Crucify the flesh with its passions and desires. Fast from gratification. Discipline your appetites. Let Christ's nature—love, joy, peace, patience—flow naturally from a transformed heart. What fruit are you bearing today?
