Guts & Glory

The story of David versus Goliath not only exemplifies the heart of a warrior but the heart of the righteous and faithful.  David was bringing his brothers some food when he heard that the King would reward whoever killed Goliath with great riches, the King’s daughter, and freedom for his family from taxes.   1Sa 17:26 Then David spoke to the men who were standing by him, saying, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should taunt the armies of the living God?” I love his reaction.  After hearing of the reward, he said, “What’d you say?”  Now great riches are enticing to anyone, and I know an elder would appreciate not having to pay any more taxes, but David was a young man. I’m pretty sure all he heard was, “I’ll give you my daughter.”  It takes more than a reward to make a man stand toe to toe with Goliath, who was over 9 feet tall (“six cubits and a span,”) because everyone else was afraid (1Sa 17:24).  David responded in almost a state shock that anyone would challenge the army of God and said, “who is the uncircumcised Philistine.”  Uncircumcised means, both figuratively and physically, not in covenant with God.  Deep down in David's spirit rose great confidence and a righteous indignation, and he boldly charged after Goliath.  Not only did he confidently confront the giant and tell him to his face that he was going to cut his head off, but he claimed victory over the entire Philistine army (1Sa 17:46 “This day the LORD will deliver you up into my hands, and I will strike you down and remove your head from you. And I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel).  Victory over the enemies of God is a witness to the world that God is real.  (Rev 12:11 “And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony).  It's time you had some testimonies.  You don’t have to go looking for a fight.   You already have some giants in your life, and if you don’t think so, then you just haven’t recognized them yet.  Like David said, “Who dares to come against the army of God?”.  What's in your life is keeping you from experiencing all of His promises? Don’t let anything come between you and the Truth.  Recognizing the enemy is the first step.  It could be people, places, or things.  It's anything that defies the Word of God.  Face your giants head-on.  They will not go away on their own.  You have to do it!!!  Some will be harder than others, especially if you’re dealing with addictions, but Lu 18:27 But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” Don’t avoid your problems; run after them.  Without a fight, there is no victory; without victory, there is no testimony, and without a testimony, there is death.

Be blessed and be BOLD,
