Let it go!!!
Our Lord cried out on the cross, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Lk 23:34 and Stephen cried out in the street as he was being stoned to death, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” Ac 7:60. How is it that the Holiest Man that ever lived suffered persecution and death, but you and I get our feathers ruffled when someone blows their horn at us on the way to work? Not only do we get upset, but immediately vain imaginations rush through our minds like a movie on the big screen. Do you think it is necessary to chase someone down and beat them up just because they dared to challenge you and your superior driving skills? When the same car pulls up at the next light, most of you don’t even look over to make eye contact pretending you don’t realize they are there.
Cast down vain imaginations bringing every thought to the captivity of Christ (2 Cor 10:5). Steven, a man just like you and me, was being stoned in the street, and he not only forgave but prayed that the Lord would forgive them. What revelation did he come to that gave him what appears to be a supernatural ability to forgive? (Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.) Once you realize that people are not your enemy, then it’s easier to forgive them. Your enemy is the forces of darkness that are influencing people and society. The baptism of the Holy Spirit brings revelation, and the Holy Spirit will lead you and guide you into all truth (Jn 16:13). You will start to see with an eternal vision. When you realize that a simple decision defines your eternal place, it drives you with a passion for seeing God’s will unfold on the earth. The time is short (“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; Lk 10:2). Even if you lived 100 years, it’s but a vapor compared to eternity (Jas 4:14). What bitterness and unforgiveness are you holding on to? If God can you forgive you of all you’ve done, then you can forgive anything. Trust in Him to handle it ( 1Pt 5:6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.) Like a simple decision determining your eternity, a simple prayer or action can change someone’s eternal direction. Who knows, but maybe Steven’s prayer to forgive them had something to do with God calling Saul to repentance on the road to Damascus. Saul was at Steven’s execution but later became Paul and did excellent work for the Kingdom of God. Let it go. Let it go for them and God, but more importantly, let it go for you. In forgiveness, there is freedom and liberty; there is life and hope. What you are holding on to is hurting you more than your offender. LET IT GO!
